COLUMBUS, Ohio – Kim Reeder and Tory Haddad received ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District recognition from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday. Reeder earned a first-team nod, making the senior captain and pitcher eligible for Academic All-America honors, while Haddad earned a spot on the second team.
This is the second first-team all-district honor for Reeder, who was also a recipient during the 2007 season. In addition to the recognition from CoSIDA, the communications major from Salinas, Calif., is a four-time OSU scholar-athlete and three-year recipient of the team’s academic award for highest GPA, in addition to being a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar-Athlete.
On the field and in the circle, Reeder is currently second all-time in career wins with 73, trailing the leader by three, and innings pitched with 728.2.
Haddad makes her first appearance on an academic all-district team after being a previous selection for Ohio State scholar-athlete and Academic All-Big Ten honors. The junior first baseman is an exercise science major with pre-med intentions.
A native of Valparaiso, Fla., Haddad was named team's most improved player in 2008 and has seen action in 49 games this season, making 48 starts with a .311 batting average and team-leading 332 assists.
Academic All-Americans are selected from the first-team all-district teams in a vote among the CoSIDA membership beginning May 12.
