COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s hockey team battled No. 9 Boston University to a 2-2 tie Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink. The series with the Terriers concluded OSU’s nonconference games for the 2008-09 season with a 2-3-1 mark.

The Buckeyes are 6-12-2 overall (4-9-1-1 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) while BU is 9-5-5 (3-2-3-3 Hockey East).

Ohio State got on the board first at 18:01 to carry a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. While on the power play, Laura McIntosh picked up the puck off from a shot by Shannon Reilly. McIntosh then zipped it over from along the boards to Rachel Davis, who scored from the goal crease.

The goal was Davis’ second of the series. With their assists, McIntosh and Reilly extended their point streaks to five games and four games, respectively. The assist increased McIntosh’s team lead in points to 25 and assists to 19.

Boston University was limited to just three shots on goal in the second period, but evened the score on one of them at 16:42. Off a pass from Kasey Boucher, Erin Seman shot the puck through traffic and into the back of the net off the right post.

Senior co-captain Morgan Marziali returned the lead to Ohio State before the second intermission. The St. Mary’s, Ontario, native skated the puck along the goal line and backhanded it in five-hole for the unassisted goal at 18:40.

Ohio State fought to hold on to its lead throughout the third period, but Boston University finally broke through with 1:31 remaining in regulation. Holly Lorms scored during a scramble in front of the net with assists by Jillian Kirchner and Sarah Russell.

The two teams skated to a scoreless five-minute overtime for the Buckeyes’ second tie in their last four games.

Senior goaltender Liana Bonanno made her first start since Nov. 28 and made 33 saves, including 16 in the third period. The assistant captain moved to 5-9-1 this season. BU’s Melissa Haber (3-1-2) finished with 27 saves.

Ohio State was a perfect 5-of-5 on the penalty kill and was 1-of-3 on the power play. The Terriers led, 35-29, in shots on goal.

The Buckeyes will continue their three-week homestand Jan. 9-10 when they face the No. 2 Minnesota Golden Gophers. Games begin at 7 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink.
