Shane Sims have been named CCHA Offensive Player and Defenseman of the Week, respectively, the league announced Monday. The duo led the Buckeyes to a series sweep of Western Michigan last weekend in Columbus with back-to-back 4-2 victories.
Paris, Ontario, native Dalpe had a team-best four points, with two goals and two assists, along with a +3 mark, in the sweep of Western Michigan. Friday he set up Paul Kirtland's goal that tied the game at 1 in the third period (the first of three goals in 49 seconds) and had the primary assist on Peter Boyd's goal that put the Buckeyes up by two with less than three minutes left in the game. Saturday, he was the first star, posting the Buckeyes' first multiple-goal game of the season. He opened the scoring on the power play in the first period and added a goal in the third to put the Buckeyes up by two. He now has a team-high 11 points this season and has a point in eight of the last nine games. He is first among CCHA players with nine points in conference-games only this year. Dalpe was a three-time CCHA Rookie of the Week last season. This is his first career offensive player of the week accolades
Sims, from East Amherst, N.Y., was a team-best +4, had two assists and four blocked shots and was not on the ice for a goal against in the sweep of Western Michigan. Friday he assisted on Boyd's late goal that sealed the comeback win and was on the ice for the Buckeyes' goals 15 seconds apart that tied the game and put Ohio State ahead. He had two shots and a blocked shot in the game. Saturday, Sims assisted on Dalpe's power-play goal that got the Buckeyes on the board in the first period. He was on the ice for two more goals, including Boyd's empty-net tally that again sealed the 4-2 win. He had two shots and three blocked shots vs. the Broncos. Sims is on a three-game scoring streak with four helpers in the stretch. He is third on the team with eight points and shares the lead with six assists. He also shares the squad lead with a +5 mark. Sims also was named the league's defensive player of the week last season.
The Buckeyes, winners of their last three games, travel to Ferris State this weekend for two CCHA contests. The teams will meet at 7:05 p.m. Friday and 5:05 p.m. Saturday in Big Rapids, Mich.
