Ohio State concludes round two Tuesday morning, looks to finish strong in final round

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State men's golf team carded an opening round of 316 Monday at the sixth-annual Memphis Intercollegiate in Tennessee. The second round was not completed after it was called because of darkness. The tournament will resume on Tuesday morning with the completion of round two at 8 a.m., followed by the final round of 18 that will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

The Buckeyes, who took the title at this tournament in 2008, are playing on the par 72, 7,259-yard South Course at the Colonial Country Club. Ohio State is currently in 13th place in the 16-team field.

The Buckeyes struggled out of the gates, shooting 28-over as the team finished in 16th place after the opening round. Round two brought improvement as they pulled within four strokes of Big Ten rivals Wisconsin and Penn State before the event was postponed due to darkness.

Ohio State is lead by sophomore Alex Redfield who fired a 4-over 76 in the opening round. Redfield was paced by freshman teammate Matthew Turner who also fired a 76 in the first round of his college career.

Sophomores Michael Kinkopf and Dan Charen each finished the first round with a 10-over 82 while junior Bo Hoag carded a 12-over 84 to round out the Buckeyes lineup.

ALSO PLAYING MONDAY ...

Four Buckeyes headed to Dayton to compete as individuals in the first round of the Dayton Flyer Invitational on the par 71, 6,824-yard NCR South Course. The 36-hole event concludes with 18 holes Tuesday.

Ohio State's top performer was redshirt-freshman Jamie Sindelar with a 73 to tie for fourth followed by junior Michael Cress tied for 16th after a round of 76. Both junior Brad Smith and rookie Zachery Sobel carded round of 81 to sit tied for 65th.
