All Buckeye fans attending game encouraged to wear scarlet
COLUMBUS, Ohio – “Scarlet Fever” will set in at Ohio Stadium Saturday when No. 10/10 Ohio State welcomes No. 3/3 and undefeated Penn State to Columbus for a pivotal Big Ten football matchup at 8 p.m. All Buckeye fans attending the game are encouraged to wear scarlet for the primetime national television broadcast on ABC.
The Buckeyes, 7-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play, take on the Nittany Lions, who stand at 8-0 on the season and also own a 4-0 mark in league action.
Scarlet rally towels, courtesy of Nationwide Insurance, will be distributed to the first 80,000 fans.
Numerous events also will surround the game Saturday, including:
• The Penn State game is homecoming for Ohio State. Information on festivities can be accessed at http://homecoming.osu.edu.
• ESPN’s College Game Day television program will broadcast live at 10 a.m. outside St. John Arena. Big Ten Network’s Game Day show also will be aired live on campus. BTN’s Friday Night Tailgate show will air from St. John Friday evening.
• Sports Illustrated and Nissan will host the “Evolution of the Game” tour at the FanFest location outside the south side of St. John Arena. Former Buckeye quarterbacks Bob Hoying and Craig Krenzel will be signing autographs starting at 2:30 p.m. Krenzel will be available from 2:30-4 p.m. and Hoying from 4-5:30 p.m.
• Following the game, 40,000 copies of an Ohio State football commemorative issue of Sports Illustrated “Game Breakers” will be handed out at Ohio Stadium exits.
• The Ohio State men’s basketball team will scrimmage from 4-5 p.m. Saturday at Value City Arena. The event is free and open to the public. Fans will be able sit anywhere in the lower bowl. The seating area will open at 3:30 p.m.
• The Ohio State University Marching Band will hold its skull session at 6 p.m. in St. John Arena.
• Former Ohio State football head coach John Cooper (1988-2000) will he honored at halftime for his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame Class of 2009.
• Ohio State’s Scarlet, Gray and Green recycling program is ongoing. Fans are encouraged to utilize the Scarlet recycling bins in tailgate areas. Fans inside Ohio Stadium and at tailgate lots deposited nearly seven tons of recyclable materials at the Purdue game Oct. 11.
