She came back on Saturday to win the three-meter event again against Kentucky, scoring 372.00 points. Alvarez also placed second from the one-meter height in both meets. The Big Ten Conference recognized Alvarez as its Diver of the Week for her efforts.

Spartan Swimming and Diving
Michigan State currently holds a 3-4 record in dual meets and features a team that is made up of juniors, sophomores and freshmen. The Spartans are led by juniors Marlys Fuqua and Heather Kiluk and freshman Stephanie Fisher. Fuqua leads the squad in the distance freestyles and earned a first place finish in the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:21.62 against Purdue on January 12. Kiluk excels in the middle distances, while Fisher leads the team in the sprints. Fisher took first in the 100 backstroke against Purdue in 58.11. On the boards, the Spartans are led by junior Danielle Williams. In October, she earned Big Ten Diver of the Week honors following first-place finishes in both the one- and three-meter boards in Michigan State’s win over Illinois.
An Eastern Michigan Eagles Update
The Eagles are 6-1 so far on the dual meet season and are coming off a 193-107 win over Oakland on January 11. Diver Becky Renkola led the Eagles on the boards, taking both the one- and three-meter events.
Cheverton Qualifies for NCAA Championships
Samantha Cheverton has qualified for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships – to be held at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion March 20-22 – in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:56.35. Cheverton swam the time at a long-course (meters) grand prix meet held in Canada earlier this season and the conversion to yards by USA Swimming is well below the NCAA qualifying standard of 1:57.32. Her actual time of 2:11.00 establishes an Ohio State long-course record.
