COLUMBUS, Ohio--Ohio State’s Evan Turner earned his second-consecutive weekly honor, and third of the season, after leading the Buckeyes with a pair of double-doubles in wins over ranked Big Ten foes last week in Columbus.  The 6-foot-7-inch Buckeye guard averaged 22 points and 11 rebounds on the week to extend Ohio State’s win streak to four games.

Against Purdue Feb. 3, Turner netted six of his 26 points in overtime to aid his team in an 80-72 triumph over the Boilermakers, ranked No. 12 at the time by the Associated Press. Turner, a native of Chicago, then carried over his clutch performance to last Saturday when he connected on seven free throws in the final 64 seconds in Ohio State’s 64-58 victory over Minnesota.

Turner connected on 45 percent of his field goals (13-of-29) and found his way to the free-throw line 26 times, making 18 (.692) in two outings.  He also handed out 11 assists to average 5.5 helpers per game. The sophomore currently leads Ohio State in eight statistical categories, including scoring (17.0 ppg), rebounding (7.5 rpg), assists (72), steals (43), minutes played (780), field goals made (122), free throws made (122) and defensive rebounds (127).

Turner is one of two players in BCS conference schools to outright lead his team in points, rebounds, assists and steals. Dominique Jones, a sophomore guard at South Florida, a member of the Big East, is the other.

The last Buckeye to earn back-to-back player of the week awards was Terence Dials in 2004-05. Michael Redd and Scoonie Penn are the last Buckeyes to earn three player of the week awards in the same season. The guard duo of Redd and Penn each did so in 1998-99.

Ohio State is off this week and will resume competition at Wisconsin Saturday (8p.m./ESPN). The game will be part of the network’s College Gameday event.
