Mullens, Buford, Turner talk about win over Purdue
William Buford scored 22 points vs. Purdue Tuesday

Turner scores 26, Buford 22 as Ohio State ends Purdue win streak at 6

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Evan Turner scored six of his 26 points in overtime, leading Ohio State past No. 12 Purdue 80-72 on Tuesday night to end the Boilermakers' six-game winning streak.

William Buford had 22 points and fellow freshman B.J. Mullens added 17 as the Buckeyes (16-5, 6-4 Big Ten) won their third straight while shooting 60 percent from the field.

Purdue (17-5, 6-3), which needed a win to share the Big Ten lead with No. 13 Michigan State, had not permitted an opponent to shoot better than 43 percent all season.

JaJuan Johnson scored a career-high 30 points and Keaton Grant added 14 for Purdue, which was without third-leading scorer Robbie Hummel, who has a hairline fracture in his back. He was cleared to play but never left the bench.

The Buckeyes pulled away in the overtime with an 8-0 run -- four of the points from Turner.

With the score tied at 64 late in regulation, Purdue ran down the shot clock until Lewis Jackson drove the lane, missing a bank shot in traffic with 3 seconds left. Turner got the rebound, but his shot from halfcourt was well off the mark.

In the overtime, Ohio State broke a 66-66 tie when Turner was fouled and made both free throws. Purdue missed a shot before Jon Diebler put up a shot in traffic -- while falling down -- that went in for a 70-66 lead. Johnson countered with two free throws to cut the lead to two.

Turner slashed through the lane and gingerly lofted a shot over a defender's hand to make it 72-68. The Buckeyes grabbed the rebound of a Purdue miss and hurried down, with Buford dunking to push the lead to six points with 47 seconds remaining.

Turner hit two free throws to end the run.

Up by three, Purdue went ahead 35-29 on Grant's 3-pointer on the first possession of the second half. The teams traded baskets for the next 8 minutes, with the Buckeyes finally pulling even at 48 on Turner's baseline layup over two defenders off an inbounds pass.

After Johnson hit the second of two free throws to put the Boilermakers ahead, Buford hit a jumper from the right baseline and, after a Purdue miss, tossed in a 3-pointer from the right corner for a 53-49 Ohio State lead.

The Boilermakers scored the next six points: Nemanja Calasan on a goaltending call against Dallas Lauderdale, Johnson's 12-foot turnaround and two free throws by Johnson.

Ohio State offered some upper-deck tickets for $5 to boost attendance. The announced crowd was 17,012.
