BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Evan Turner had 29 points and 10 rebounds Saturday as Ohio State beat Indiana 93-81, a school record-tying 11th straight loss for the Hoosiers.
William Buford added 24 points for the Buckeyes (15-5, 5-4), who won for only the sixth time in 35 tries at Assembly Hall and posted their first regular-season sweep of the Hoosiers in a decade. Coach Thad Matta is now 50-25 in Big Ten games, becoming the second fastest in school history to reach 50 conference wins. Former Buckeyes coach Fred Taylor did it in 61 games.
Freshman Matt Roth led the Hoosiers (5-15, 0-8) with 29 points, making nine 3s to tie a single-game school record, but it wasn't enough to avoid matching the worst losing streak in school history. Indiana's 11 straight losses is its worst skid since 1943-44.
Noting the Indiana Win
• Thad Matta became the second-fastest Ohio State head coach to win 50 league games with the victory at Indiana. Matta is 50-25 vs. Big Ten teams during regular season play. Fred Taylor won 50 games in 61 tries.
• Jon Diebler knocked down five 3-pointers vs. the Hoosiers to give him 101 for his career. Diebler scored 21 points in the win, his third 20+ point game of his career.
• Evan Turner scored a career high 29 points to go along with 10 rebounds vs. the Hoosiers.
• Turner’s double-double is his fifth of the season and seventh of his career at Ohio State. He is the only current Buckeye with a double-double to his credit.
• Freshman William Buford scored a career high 24 points. He has reached double digits in seven of the last eight games and in 12 contests this season
• Ohio State shot 63 percent (29-46) from the field for the game and 76 percent (16-21) in the second half. The Buckeyes have shot 60 percent or better twice this season and have shot 50 percent or better in six of the last seven games. Ohio State has shot 50 percent or better in 10 games this season.
• Evan Turner connected on 10 of 14 shots vs. the Hoosiers. He is shooting 52 percent (109-211) from the field this season. He made 109 of 232 (.470) shots all of last season (37 gms.)
• The 93 points scored by the Buckeyes is the highest offensive output since Ohio State defeated UMass 92-85 in the title game of the 2008 National Invitation Tournament in New York.
• The 93 points scored against Indiana is the most for Ohio State in the series since the Buckeyes defeated the Hoosiers 97-95 in double overtime Feb. 17, 1991 at St. John Arena. The last time Ohio State reached 90 points at Indiana was Jan. 21, 1991.
• The win vs. the Hoosiers was the first for Thad Matta in Bloomington. Matta is 5-5 vs. Indiana all-time.
• Ohio State made 12 consecutive field goals to end the first half (last seven shots made) and at the start of the second (first five shots made). Down 27-17 the Buckeyes started the streak with an Evan Turner layup with 5:35 to go in the first half. Ohio State cut IU’s lead to 50-49 after making five consecutive buckets to start the second half. The final make in the streak was a William Buford jumper at 15:46 to play.
• Jeremie Simmons scored 17 points, a career high. He also tied a career best with eight assists.
• The Buckeyes are 15-0 this season when leading with 5:00 to play in the game. Matta is 109-4 at Ohio State when leading at the 5:00 mark.
• The Buckeyes connected on 10 of 17 3-pointers in the game. Ohio State is 4-0 on the year when making 10 or more 3s. Matta’s teams at Ohio State are 33-7 when making 10 or more treys. Ohio State has made a 3 in 175-consecutive games. Opponents have made at least one 3-pointer in 522-consecutive games. Indiana made 15 3s, tied for the sixth-most vs Ohio State.
• Ohio State knocked down 25 of 30 foul shots vs. the Hoosiers, the second most made FTs in a game this season behind the 26 of 35 effort vs. Iona
• Evan Turner has averaged 26.5 points and 7.5 rebounds over the last two games in 78 minutes (39.0 mpg.). He has connected on 70 percent of his field goals (16-23) and 91 percent of his foul shots (21-23).
• Ohio State won for just the sixth time at Assembly Hall in 35 games. Ohio State is 70-99 vs. Indiana all-time and 21-60 in Bloomington.
• The Buckeyes scored 56 second-half points, the most for a half for Ohio State this season.
