COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP)  - Durrell Summers had 26 points to almost double his career high and No. 7 Michigan State dominated the boards on Sunday to beat Ohio State 78-67.

The Spartans (16-3, 6-1 Big Ten) took 15 more shots from the field, thanks to a 35-19 rebounding advantage. On the offensive boards, Michigan State held a 16-3 upper hand.

Kalin Lucas added 20 points and Goran Suton 13 for the Spartans, who were coming off a humiliating 70-63 loss to Northwestern on Wednesday night that had ended an 11-game winning streak and a string of 28 straight wins at the Breslin Center.

Down as many as 12 points early, they took command with a 9-0 run midway through the second half.

Evan Turner had 19 points, B.J. Mullens and Jon Diebler had 12 apiece and William Buford 11 for Ohio State (13-5, 3-4), which is 4-5 since opening with nine consecutive wins to climb to No. 15.

Summers, averaging 8.0 points a game, doubled that in the first half while matching his previous career best of 16 against San Jose State two seasons ago. He hadn't scored more than 14 points in game this season, yet hit on 8-of-13 shots from the field and 6-of-9 3-pointers. He also made all four of his free throws.

He had never made more than two 3-pointers in a game before.

Down by five after the first 20 minutes, the Spartans scored on their first two possessions of the second half to draw to 31-30, the closest they had been in more than 13 minutes.

Summers hit his fifth 3-pointer with just under 14 minutes left to give Michigan State its first lead since it was 7-5. Almost immediately, Turner slashed laterally through the lane and flipped up a shot to tie it at 44.

Turner then forced a turnover and hit a 3 for a 47-44 lead.

But that was a last hurrah for Ohio State. At the other end, Lucas scissored his way through the lane and hit a layup, converting the free throw for a tying three-point play.

Michigan State broke a tie at 50 on a 14-foot jumper by Suton and, after an Ohio State turnover, Summers drilled another 3 from the right wing. Travis Walton added another perimeter jumper to push the lead to 57-50.

Ohio State went scoreless for almost 5 minutes during the Spartans' 9-0 run.

The Buckeyes got as close 59-56 before the Spartans scored on six straight possessions to go up by double figures.

Ohio State set the tone in the first half, shooting 55 percent from the field while building a 31-26 lead. The Buckeyes streaked to a 26-14 lead on Buford's fallaway 15-footer. Michigan State counterpunched with a 9-0 run - Summers had five points and almost a sixth when his shot from the right corner was downgraded from a 3 to a 2 because his toe was on the line.

Summers was about all the Spartans had on offense in the opening half. He hit 5-of-8 shots from the field including 4-of-5 3-pointers and Michigan's State's only two free throws. The rest of his teammates were a combined 5-of-19 (26 percent) from the field, missing all seven of their shots behind the arc. No one else had more than two points, with five Spartans contributing a basket apiece.
