Value City Arena adds new video boards to enhance game-day atmosphere, listen to Iowa game live on Buckeye Vision

For fans who have not made it out to Value City Arena for the first portion of the basketball and men's hockey seasons, there is no better time to catch a game and ring in the new year with the bright lights of the new Value City Arena scoreboard than at the men's basketball Big Ten opener vs. Iowa (4 p.m., Wednesday).

Fans can read a feature article on the new scoreboard in the Official Game Day Magazine Wednesday. Programs are available on the main concourse of Value City Arena. Read an excerpt from the story below.

Value City Arena adds new video boards to enhance game-day atmosphere

~ By Stacey Freyer, Ohio State Athletics Communications

Walking into Value City Arena on game day may look different for many Buckeye fans and it is not only because of the fresh faces found on the court. Thanks to the installation of a state-of-the-art scoreboard and ribbon boards circling the venue, the arena is lit up with bright colors, images and graphics to enhance every moment of the game.

To kick-off the 2008-09 Buckeye basketball and hockey seasons, the new video boards were installed featuring a center-hung scoreboard and 360-degree LED fascia board.

“The main difference you will see from last year to this year is the number of screens,” Mark Smith, Ohio State Director of Video Services, said. “We have the 360-degree fascia all the way around the arena. We have a higher resolution, brighter, richer color video board in the middle of the arena surrounded by a couple of animation rings and then an eight-sided board on the top that will show the scores, stats and different messages.”

The multi-million dollar upgrade, which will be paid for by sponsorship revenue, makes Value City Arena one of just two buildings in the country to have a 6-mm video board. The other is the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.
