Kristen Dozier had a co-team high 16 points in the 3-1 loss to Indiana

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team (12-20 overall, 3-17 Big Ten) closed out the season with a 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 20-25, 21-25) loss to Indiana Saturday night in front of 1,126 fans in St. John Arena. Indiana’s Ashley Benson posted a match-high 20 points with 17 kills and six assist blocks. OSU’s Kristen Dozier and Katie Dull shared team-high honors with 16 points each. Dozier recorded 14 kills, a solo block and two assist blocks in the match. Dull had 13 kills, an ace serve and four assist blocks.

Tied at six in set one, Ohio State took an 8-6 lead off a Dozier kill and an IU error. The Hoosiers cut the lead to one with a Kelsey Hall kill. Two Indiana errors, a Dozier-Kaila Calhoun block and a Dozier solo block put the Buckeyes ahead, 12-7. An 8-2 Ohio State run pushed the lead to 20-10. At 22-12, a Dull kill and an Allie Schwarzwalder-Kelli Barhorst block gave Ohio State set point at 24-12. A Hoosier kill by Benson stopped the first set point at 24-13. An Erica Short solo block made it 24-14 stopping a second set point. Ohio State closed out the set with a Barhorst kill to win 25-14. The Buckeyes hit .357 for the set to .030 for Indiana.

Ohio State opened set two with kills from Dull and Dozier and Ashley Hughes for a 3-0 lead. At 4-1, Ohio State, Indiana scored the next six points to open a 7-4 lead. At 12-8, two Betsy Hone kill and two Hoosier errors tied the set at 12. Tied at 14, a Barhorst-Dull block gave Ohio State a 15-14 lead. A Benson kill tied the set at 15. Two Buckeye errors and a Lexie Woodson-Short block gave Indiana an 18-15 lead. A Barhorst kill and an IU error cut the margin to one at 18-17. An OSU error and a Barhorst kill made it 19-18. A Hayley Koetter kill, two from Hall and an OSU error gave Indiana a 23-18 lead. The Buckeyes responded with a Schwarzwalder kill, a Calhoun-Dozier block and kills from Hone and Calhoun to cut the Indiana lead to one at 23-22. Indiana reached set point with a Hall kill at 24-22. A Calhoun kill stopped the first set point at 24-23 but a Benson kill closed out the set at 25-23 to tie the match at one set each. Indiana hit .200 for the set to .154 for Ohio State.

Set three saw Indiana open a 10-5 lead. With Ohio State trailing 12-9, a Dozier kill and two Indiana errors tied the set at 12. A Hall kill and two OSU errors gave Indiana a 17-14 lead. At 23-18 Hoosiers, kills from Dozier and Dull cut the margin to three at 23-20. A Short kill made it 24-20 with IU serving set point. Short, with a kill, gave Indiana a 25-20 win and a 2-1 lead in the match. Indiana hit .172 in the set to .129 for Ohio State.

An OSU error and a Short kill gave Indiana a 2-0 lead in set four. Trailing, 5-2, three Indiana errors tied the set at five. At six all, a Benson kill and two from Short gave Indiana a 9-6 lead. The Hoosiers built up a seven point lead at 17-10. Indiana held a 22-15 lead and saw kills from Dull and Barhorst and a Hoosier error cut the margin to 22-18. A Short kill made it 23-18. Dull, with a kill, made the score, 23-19. A Taylor Wittmer kill set match point at 24-19. A Dozier kill stopped the first match point at 24-20. An Indiana error stopped the second match point at 24-21. The Hoosiers closed out the set with a Hall block to win 25-21 and take the match, 3-1. Indiana hit .270 for the set to .053 for the Buckeyes.

For the match, Indiana hit .174 to Ohio State’s .161. The Buckeyes had a 52-51 edge in kills while the Hoosiers had a 3-1 advantage in ace serves. Indiana gave up six service errors to five for Ohio State. Defensively, Indiana had a 57-53 advantage in digs with Juli Pierce collecting a match-high 18. At the net, the Hoosiers had a 14-11 margin in team blocks. Ohio State’s Barhorst posted a match-high eight assist blocks in the contest. IU setter Mary Chaudoin recorded 34 assists in the match. Hone collected 30 assists for the Buckeyes with Hughes adding 11.
