  • The Buckeyes are averaging 91.0 ppg, by far the most in the Jim Foster era through five games. Ohio State is shooting better than 50 percent as a team and have four players shooting 50 percent or better (min. 3 attempts per game), led by Jantel Lavender's 59.3 percent clip.
  • All five Ohio State starters are averaging in double-figures.
  • In the WNIT championship game, Ohio State had three different players score at least 20 points: Lavender (26), Johnson (23) and Prahalis (22). The last time that happened was Dec. 3, 2006 in an 84-79 win against Washington in Columbus: Davenport (25), Hoskins (23) and Packer (25).
  • Ohio State is outscoring opponents, 234-139, in the first half - an average margin of +19.0.
  • The Buckeyes are now 5-0 this season and 47-2 since the start of the 2007-08 season when they outshoot their opponents at the free throw line.
  • Ohio State has made 30 more free throws (101) than its opponents have attempted (71) this season.
  • Junior Jantel Lavender has scored in double-figures in all 71 career games - the longest active streak in Division I.
  • Brittany Johnson recorded career highs with 23 points and seven 3FG's in the WNIT championship against Oklahoma State. The seven 3's tied for second-best on the school's all-time single-game list. She made her first six shots from the field overall and has 12 3FG's in her last three games.
  • Samantha Prahalis dished out nine more assists - exactly her average - and was one shy of her personal best with 22 points against Oklahoma State.

  • Last Thursday's win over West Virginia marked the first time six Buckeyes scored in double-figures since Dec. 17, 2006 against Howard.
  • Jantel Lavender's 39 career double-doubles is the most among active Big Ten players. Lavender had a Big Ten-best 24 in 2008-09 and two so far this year. The Buckeyes are 33-6 overall in her career when she records a double-double.
  • Ohio State owns the seventh-best winning percentage (.836) and has the ninth-most wins (138) in all of women's basketball over the last five seasons.

Prahalis Honored by the Big Ten
Samantha Prahalis earned her first Big Ten player of the week honor Monday in recognition of her performance last week in wins over UAB, West Virginia and Oklahoma State. Prahalis nearly averaged a double-double with 16.3 points and 9.7 assists in the three victories. She also averaged 5.0 rebounds, shot 50 percent from the field and was named the Preseason WNIT's co-MVP with teammate Jantel Lavender. Against UAB, the sophomore put in 13 points, dished out eight assists and added four rebounds in an 88-55 win. In the tournament semifinals Thursday against West Virginia, Prahalis recorded her first career double-double with 14 points and 12 assists in a 92-69 win. She capped the week on Sunday in the championship game against Oklahoma State, scoring 22 points - one shy of her career high - and handing out nine assists in a 93-72 Ohio State victory. Prahalis leads the Big Ten with 9.0 assists per game and is 13th in scoring with 14.6 on the season.

Youth Movement
One might be quick to think that Ohio State features one of the more veteran teams in the country. Fact is, it's just the opposite. the Buckeyes are one of only three teams ranked in the AP Top 15 to feature no seniors in their starting lineup. Further, junior Jantel Lavender and sophomore Samantha Prahalis have three times as many starts (111) than the other three starters combined: freshman Tayler Hill (5), junior Sarah Schulze (5) and junior Brittany Johnson (25).

Fast Starts
The Buckeyes are jumping out to big leads this season, outscoring their opponents 234-139 in the first half. Their largest lead at the half was a 53-24 advantage against UAB in which the Buckeyes shot 70.4 percent (19-of-27) in the opening 20 minutes -- its highest shooting percentage in a half since Dec. 6, 2006 when OSU connected on 19-of-26 shots (73.1 percent) in the second half against Alabama A&M. Ohio State also scored 55 points in the first 20 minutes in the WNIT second round win over Bowling Green.

Scouting UNCG
The Spartans, located in Greensboro, N.C., are a member of the Southern Conference with an enrollment of 17,467. In 2008-09, UNCG went 13-18 overall with a 9-10 mark in conference play. They return four starters and 11 letterwinners in 2009-10. UNC Greensboro is 1-2 on the season with a win over Morgan State (85-68) and losses at Liberty (42-60) and High Point (63-75). Monique Floyd is the early scoring leader for the Spartans, averaging 11.0 ppg while Amanda Leigh is second with 10.0 ppg. Floyd also leads the team with 6.3 rebounds. Head coach Lynne Agee is in her 29th season as head coach at UNCG with a 534-277 mark, including a 580-300 career record in her 32nd season overall. Agee has won over 66 percent of her games and was the first women's basketball coach to lead a school to the NCAA tournament in all three divisions.

Buckeyes Among Early Big Ten Leaders
Several Buckeyes rank among the early Big Ten leaders in several statistical categories. Jantel Lavender ranks first in scoring (24.4), third in FG percentage (.538) and fourth in rebounding (9.6). Samantha Prahalis leads the Big Ten with 9.0 assists per game and is fourth with a +2.65 assist/turnover ratio. Junior Sarah Schulze is first in FT percentage (12-of-12, 1.000) while classmate Brittany Johnson jumped up to third in 3FG's with 2.6 per game and is second in 3FG% at .650 (13-of-20). As a team, Ohio State ranks either first or second in scoring (91.0 ppg), scoring margin (+23.8), FG percentage (.506), 3FG percentage (.436), rebounding (46.0), rebounding margin (+13.0), assists (21.0) and assist/turnover ratio (+1.44).

OSU-Oklahoma State Recap
Jantel Lavender scored 26 points, Brittany Johnson had a career-high 23 and Samantha Prahalis added 22 and nine assists as the Buckeyes (5-0) pushed their season scoring average to 91 points a game. Tayler Hill chipped in with 11 points for the Buckeyes. Lavender, a preseason Associated Press All-American and a two-time Big Ten player of the year, and Prahalis, last year's top freshman in the conference and a showy point guard who never slows down, shared the tournament MVP honors. Johnson scored 17 of Ohio State's first 20 points, almost matching her career best of 18 in the game's first 8 minutes. Andrea Riley had 27 points, Tegan Cunningham 19 and Lindsey Keller 11 for the Cowgirls (3-1), who were playing their fourth straight opponent who won at least 20 games and made it into the NCAA field a year ago. Riley, who reached 2,000 career points with a 3-pointer 9 seconds after the tip, along with Cunningham joined Lavender and Prahalis on the all-tournament team. Ohio State's lead hovered around 10 points for several minutes until Prahalis' behind-the-back assist to Lavender put the Buckeyes ahead 57-44 at the 14-minute mark of the second half. After the Cowgirls narrowed the deficit to 60-50 on Riley's pull-up jumper, Sarah Schulze hit all three shots after she was fouled behind the arc, Lavender made a step-back 12-footer and freshman Tayler Hill had a steal and went coast to coast for the layup to put the Buckeyes up by 17. The lead never fell below 14 points again. Lavender overcame a slow start, dominating inside after Johnson's perimeter shooting and Prahalis' slashes through the lane all but prevented the Cowgirls from double-teaming her. The Buckeyes led 42-33 at the break. Johnson's fast start enabled the Buckeyes to forge an early lead that they never relinquished.
