Bucks & Cards Continue Pool Battle at Purdue

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Three more NCAA "B" qualifying standards were met by Ohio State men's swimmers and the Buckeyes continue to sit in second place after the second day of competition at the Purdue Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. Ohio State has 609 points and trails Louisville by 7.5 points. Purdue (537) and Missouri State (216.5) are third and fourth, respectively.

Qualifying provisionally for the NCAA championships, which Ohio State will host at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion March 25-27, were two Ohio State relays and Andrew Elliott, who finished fourth in the 100 backstroke with an NCAA "B" time of 48.99.

The 200 medley relay team started the evening on a high note for Ohio State, winning with an NCAA "B" time of 1:29.21. Swimming for the Buckeyes was Elliott, Elliott Keefer, Quincy Lee and Joel Elber.

The final event of the night - the 800 free relay - was almost as good as the 200 medley relay as it finished second in an NCAA "B" time of 6:38.75. Swimming this event for the Buckeyes was George Markovic, Lincoln Fahrbach, Andrew Olson and Stefan Sigrist.

Two Buckeyes swam to runner-up finishes in individual races. Justin Farra, who swam to an NCAA "B" cut in the 200 IM Friday, took second in the 400 individual medley in 3:56.43. And Andrew Olson was second in the 200 freestyle in 1:39.00.

The invite concludes with prelims Sunday morning and finals starting at 4 p.m.
