Buckeyes return to more man defense Columbus Dispatch OSU-Walsh at a glance, rosters

Turning a new corner: OSU guard takes on new challenge

OSU Lantern - As if Evan Turner didn't do enough already. In the game of basketball, guards typically handle the ball and pass, forwards shoot and score and centers rebound and block shots. So what position is Turner, who led Ohio State in points, rebounds, assists, 3-point percentage and steals a year ago? "He would be your hybrid point forward, whatever those announcers call those guys," coach Thad Matta said.

With roster intact, OSU meets lofty expectations as season arrives

OSU Lantern - For the first time since 2005, the hype surrounding the Ohio State men's basketball team has nothing to do with incoming freshmen. It has nothing to do with recently departed stars and nothing to do with "what could have been." The Buckeyes, who had become all too familiar with players leaving early for the NBA, return all but one player from last year's team and have zero incoming freshmen.

Buford looks to build off brilliant freshman season

OSU Lantern - Being Big Ten Freshman of the Year might satisfy most - but not William Buford. The Toledo native is determined to make his name known and has been working to become a better player in the offseason. Buford had an opportunity last season to get more minutes after an injury ended the season for junior David Lighty.

Big Ten presents balance, challenge for Buckeyes

OSU Lantern - The Big Ten may be slipping in national prominence for football, but men's basketball is on the rise. The dominance of the Big Ten in men's basketball began in the 2005 NCAA tournament. Big Ten teams occupied five spots in the NCAA tournament, three of which made it to the Elite Eight: Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan State.

Lavender looks to lead Bucks into national spotlight

OSU Lantern - Once you are recognized as the best, it becomes that much harder to stay there. Sometimes there are external factors, like the target that you wear on your back once the accolades start coming your way. But far more often, the struggle to stay on top is internal.

Point guard aiming for improvement after stellar freshman campaign

OSU Lantern - After earning the honors of Big Ten Freshman of the Year, point guard Samantha Prahalis is looking for an encore.  In her first season as a Buckeye, Prahalis started in all 35 games and played 33.5 minutes per contest, the second most on the team.

Sibling love: Hill joins brother in Columbus

OSU Lantern - Ohio State basketball is betting on the fact spectators will be seeing a lot of the Hills this season.  No, not the brain-numbing, MTV reality show featuring Lauren Conrad and her catty band, but rather the sibling duo of P.J. Hill, a guard on the men's basketball team, and his sister Tayler, a newcomer to the OSU women's basketball team.

After Sweet Sixteen appearance, OSU starts new season among nation's titans

OSU Lantern - The Associated Press has the Ohio State women's basketball team ranked No. 3 coming into the season. While coach Jim Foster played down the hype, saying preseason polls mean nothing, it's clear that expectations are high for the Buckeyes this year.

Should Jim Tressel run for office or pass on it? Cleveland Plain Dealer

Will Mr. Tressel go to Washington?

ESPN Jim Tressel is nicknamed The Senator, and some believe the Ohio State head coach will pursue a career in politics after he hangs up his sweater vest. The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Doug Lesmerises wrote an interesting piece Friday talking with former Nebraska head coach Tom Osborne, who served six years in the U.S. House of Representatives before returning to the school as athletic director. Osborne weighed in on several topics, including Tressel's political prospects.

Posey shows he can throw it, too

The Columbus Dispatch Who knew Ohio State receiver DeVier Posey was left-handed? "I didn't, until we ran that play in practice for the first time last week," tight end Jake Ballard said. Now everyone, including upcoming Big Ten opponents, knows it. "That play" was a reverse option pass by Posey yesterday. He hit Dane Sanzenbacher for a 39-yard touchdown in the second quarter on the way to a 45-0 win over nonconference foe New Mexico State.

Buckeye beatdown: Aggies overmatched at The 'Shoe

OSU Lantern - Ohio State (7-2, 4-1) pulled out its entire bag of tricks, treating New Mexico State (3-6, 1-3) to a 45-0 trouncing on Saturday at Ohio Stadium. Terrelle Pryor threw for 135 yards and ran for 83, accounting for a pair of touchdowns before sitting out the second half.

Victory turns ugly with injury report

The Columbus Dispatch The scoreboard reported a rousing Ohio State victory, but it isn't always the most trustworthy source. The scoreboard is devious. The scoreboard sometimes lies. Its veracity was called into question again yesterday after what appeared to be a beautiful day for the Buckeyes. Ohio State had 559 yards in total offense, allowed 62 and rolled to a 45-0 victory over New Mexico State, which might be an answer to a trivia question: Have the modern Buckeyes ever met a nonconference opponent that was as bad as Rice?

What injury? Terrelle Pryor back at practice as Buckeyes begin PSU preparations

Cleveland Plain Dealer Terrelle Pryor was striding off the practice field on Tuesday afternoon just like every other Ohio State Buckeye. Well, going back to his home state to play for the first time on Saturday mean's he's not quite acting like all the others. But what matters most is that he's healthy.

Cleveland Plain Dealer: Terrelle Pryor healthy, and Boren and Larimore also should return for Penn State
